As Michelle Obama toured around Europe last week with daughters Malia and Sasha, we noticed something: Baby sister Sasha, who entered the White House at the age of 7, (earning the honor of the youngest member of the first family since John F. Kennedy’s children,) is so not a baby anymore! In fact, she turns 15 next week.
As expected, since moving into the White House Sasha’s style has gone from tiny tot to tasteful teen. See our favorite moments through out her sartorial evolution, plus five recent looks that prove she’s got style in spades.
In 2005 the youngest Obama posed with the rest of her family at a re-enactment of Barack Obama’s swearing in as a member of Congress. Her outfit was predictably adorable, made up of a long sleeve printed A-line dress, white tights, and Mary Jane shoes.
Three years later, Obama coordinated with Barack, Michelle, and Malia for the 2008 election, wearing a black floral print dress and cardigan with a giant bow.
She got colorful for the POTUS’ 2009 swearing-in ceremony, sporting a custom-designed peach wool coat, melon colored gloves, and a matching scarf from J.Crew’s “crewcuts” line.
As the years went on, her looks got more and more sophisticated. At the 2012 Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina, she looked poised and put together in a black and white printed Anthropologie dress. The yellow belt added a pop of color.
For the 2013 inauguration ceremony, Obama, who was 11 at the time, went with a regal color scheme: A purple Kate Spade coat, plus gloves and a scarf. When she unbuttoned her coat she revealed a purple-on-purple striped Kate Spade dress.
Fast forward to 2015, when Obama’s transformation kicked in to high gear. Earlier this month, she attended the Marine Barracks evening parade, posing for photos in a navy, floral print cap sleeve dress. Studded ballet flats edged up the look.
On her mother’s European good will tour, Obama was photographed exiting 10 Downing Street in London wearing a mint green A-line dress and simple nude ballet flats. It was at this point when we realized, “whoa, Sasha’s not a kid anymore!”
She toured the U.S. Pavillon of the Venice Biennale venue in a skater-skirt multicolor print dress and lust-worthy circle-frame sunglasses.
Also on the trip Obama, who is a fan of trendy brands like Topshop, showed off her print-mixing skills in a floral applique crop top shirt paired with a gingham print skirt.
For the end of her stylish tour, Obama left Venice in a crisp white dress and black ballet flats. Needless to say she also left us all feeling blown away by her total evolution!
